The thread on the 66 power antenna is stripped

I was driving the other day back from a car show and I discovered that my antenna dropped into the whole on the body. I pulled over and discovered that the thread at the base that comes up through the body was stripped and the chrome screw on knob could not hold it....do I need a whole new unit (power antenna) or do they have a new thread that I can install on the antenna pole. Help!!!! (duct tape is currently holding it up and looks tacky!!!) marc
    email vetmarc@cox.net thank you

Marc -- if I'm reading you correctly, the thread on the shaft (where pencil eraser is pointing) is the culprit, and not the chrome nut. If so, much harder to obtain.

Marc -- your antenna assembly really should not have "dropped" into the hole, even if you had NO chrome nut/bezel. That's because it's supposed to be supported by this bracket with a screw/bolt thru the slot into the base of the antenna motor.

This pic is taken by lying on the ground and shooting up; left is toward front of car. You can see the antenna hole in the rear deck and the ground strap / ribbon. [no motor in place].

              Marc,

To add to Wayne's picture, here's two with the antenna installed. He's right, it shouldn't drop down with out the top nut unless the bracket underneath is missing.
