Well, keep in mind: not everybody takes their "car-appreciation" to a level as high as we do... Say, not necessarily and most probable not back then!
So, don't be too disappointed if information doesn't get coming in big lots.
Psychologically wise approach always is to give before taking - so tell him about how the car has been doing recently and all the things, you have been able to find out already. That may get the juices flowing a lot better...
(It took me quite some time to squeeze my lot of information plus the original liccense plates from the elderly lady I bought my car from... But I tell you: it's worth the effort!)
