Keith...didn't realize there are 800,000 sexy color combination top flight C2s on the market at the moment.
Look...the point is...I am not going to slam any one individual. it is up to the buyer to do their homework or at least get knowledgeable help. This forum is a way we can help each other to keep the DBs at bay...no pun intended.
A reputable dealer will tell you about a non-original trim tag. But it is defintely Caveat Emptor these days with so many color change cars on the market. Buying from an individual or dealer you don't know is a crap shoot. Best to take your NCRS book on trim tags with you or get an inspection from an expert done if you are thinking of paying big bucks for a red on red or black on black.
There are many reputable small dealers out there that cannot not tell the difference between real and bogus tags. Caveat Emptor. Do you homework or hire someone knowledgeable to inspect the car for you

Jim,
Not trying to cause an argument here but I agree with Keith. If you know for a fact someone is making bogus trim tags why would it NOT be in everyone's best interest to share the information? If not why even bring it up. Who don't you want to offend, the guy making the bogus tags? Some of us haven't been around the hobby as long as others and definitely don't know all the ins and outs when it comes to buying vintage Corvettes or parts. So we appreciate whatever information we can get from the more experienced members here on the board and take most of it to heart.
Laying it out without the facts is like telling someone picking an apple out of a bushel full you know there is one in the basket full of worms but you're not going to tell him which one it is even though you know.

Easy boys.... Ok..most of us already know there are bogus trim tags, no surprise. NO...I don't know who is making them and I don't know the DBs that rivet them on either. What I do know is that they exist and WE should, as stated earlier, do our homework (buy the trim tag book or hire an expert) b4 we buy that dream red/red or black/black loaded with options top-flight of our dreams.
Just a word to the wise to help that newcomer to our community b4 they get burned.
