What is the length of an original driveshaft (propeller shaft), P/N 3707878, that was installed in a 1953-54? The 1953-1955 Corvette Parts Catalog, which NCRS sells, says on page 34, Group 5.436, that it is 36" C/L to C/L of the u-joints. Is this correct? Also, are there any markings on it to help identify it as being a correct original shaft? I have a driveshaft which is just 34" C/L to C/L. Could this one be correct if the 36" length turns out to be incorrect?

The Tripoli book shows the '53-'55 6-cyl. driveshaft (3707878) as 36" C-C, and the '55-'62 V-8 driveshaft (3712377) as 34-1/2" C-C.

Thanks for the answer, it confirms what I have found out about the lengths. I forgot that I had the 1929-1959 Chevrolet "Parts and Accessories Catalog" and I just looked in there a few minutes ago. It shows the 1953-55 6 cyl. Corvette propeller shaft to be 37 7/16" OAL, no C/L to C/L given. Subtracting the two C/L to the ends and you come up with 36". So, everything that have seen and read so far confirms that the 36" C/L to C/L is correct. Anybody have an original that they can measure?

I think I really have it nailed down about the correct length. But, it would be nice to have one or two actually measured to confirm the measurements that I have found. I look forward for your actual measurements.

Mike is correct have it made "simple" and then you know it's straight and balanced

Are there any drawings/specs available anywhere to give to someone who makes driveshafts? What do you use for the two ends and where can you purchase them? All I really know is the 36" C/L to C/L length.

I was just looking at e-bay and C&C sells them and the price seems OK , go that way
