Hi Ralph. Check out this recent photo from my 70:

It's not the best at showing your point of inquiry, but as you can see both the brackets and the springs are poor quality body color, and I would assume your 69 should be similar. I was never told mine was incorrect in judging. Good Luck

The deck lid was mounted to its hinge bracket with springs in place when the body whent through the paint booth. Since the underside of the deck lid was shot with body color, the supporting hinge assy's also received spray.

Where does the color stop? That's a variable. It depended on the aggressiveness of the painter and the amount of airborne overspray present on that particular paint job. Most show SOME sign of radom overspray all the way to the bottom of the hinge support assy with coverage thinning out the further away from the bottom side of the deck lid you go down the hinge assy...

        Ralph

Attached are a couple pictures of my 68 in the same area you show.

My 69 looks the same but it is a green car and the bracket and hinge appear to be black so there is very little contrast you can see.

Once the carpet is in place very little of this area can be seen. My 69 carpet covers this area even more then is shown in the 68 pictures.
