At the present I am preparing to reassemble the chassis of my '56 Corvette. I will be replacing the Rebound Straps that loop under the rear axle assembly. My investigation has yeilded two different tools to crimp the rivits that hold the straps in place. The tool that Paragon has is for rent. I am not sure about the one from Corvette Central as I saw it on their online catalogue and not in the printed one. I am wondering what experience you folks on this list have had with these tools and possibly which seems to work the best as for being user friendly and giving the proper crimp on the rivits for judging purposes. Thanks in advance! Brooks Glover (2141)

Re: Installation of Rebound Straps on C-1's
Brooks,
I used the tool from Corvette Central. One of the threads that clamped the pieces together gave me a hard time, but after I re-taped it the job went well. Took about an hour from start to finish.

Re: Installation of Rebound Straps on C-1's
Hi Brooks,
I have the tool if you want to borrow it. My 55 had the original straps and rivets and the tool replicated them exactly. ( assuming you get the correct rivets) I don't remember which company I ordered the tool or rivets from but it worked great. Let me know if you want to borrow it, I may never need it again!- Top

Re: Installation of Rebound Straps on C-1's
Jeff and others, thanks for your replies. I assume you must have bought your tool from Corvette Central as to my knowledge Paragon only rents theirs. Paragon wants $50 to rent the tool plus a deposit of $150 and I believe $3 per day if you go over the limit they have for you to use the tool. At this point I am leaning toward buying the tool from Corvette Central ($30). I may also take Jeff up on his offer to loan me his. I still have some time to decide as I still have some work to do before putting the rear axle under my frame. I want to thank everyone for their input on my question. Brooks Glover (2141)- Top
