    64 Powerglide

This site is great. Although a member for quite awhile, I've never used this. Sure helped considerably with some rear end information for my 66 BB.
As for the 64, my powerglide tranny will not lock in park - car will roll when on slight hill. Parking brake works but I prefer all to work correctly. I'm told I need a tranny pawl. My question: once the pan is removed, then what? One source told me the valve body may have to be removed for access to the pawl and it must be replaced. Another felt it just needs adjustment. I don't have a lift but can get brief access to one at a local machine shop so I need to be fully prepared before jumping in there.

i'd be sure to check the shifter adjustment before tearing into the powerglide. i'd get the car on a lift, remove the shifter rod where it hooks to the pwerglide shift lever. then see if i could move the lever such that the tranny locks in park. may just be a simple out of adjustment shifter rod. mike

I agree with Mike check the adjustment first. Very good info from Tom Hendrcks though. This site has helped me more times than I can count.
