    Sintered Bronze Fuel Filters ('66-up)

Slow day on the Board, so here's a few questions.

Are these elements or filters cleanable ? ie. can you blow or brush off any silty deposits ? Or can you back-flush them ? Are they still available from the General ?

Thumbnail shows the two kinds of fittings I have on my carbs; one with steel gasket (to bowl) and the other a kind of fiberboard. I assume the order of assembly is as shown on the top row ( fitting, gasket, filter gasket [very thin, like paper], filter itself [point facing incoming gasoline], and finally the spring, against the small center hole in the filter).

the "open end" of the filter is were the gas enters and the auto parts sell the filters. you can try soaking them in lacquer thinner and blowing thru in reverse

Why would you even want to clean one? Are they becoming hard to find? I have'nt had any problem finding them in the past, but I bought several 2-3 years ago and haven't looked recently. If they are becoming hard to find, I better go look and stock up.

There's really no effective way to clean them. I recall seeing these filters at Pep Boys - Purolator brand. They are not at all expensive, and no one will ever know you have a non-original replacement.

I think that same sintered bronze filter was used on Rockester carbs from at least the early sixties through the Quadrajet era.

Purolator also markets PCV and charcoal cannister filters - the white woven material type that look just like OE

Wayne the part # is 7013404 if they are still available from GM. I remember buying them in a plastic GM bag containing more than one bronze filter inside. In my racing days I remember taking the bronze filter completely out and then installing a in-line filter before the carb. I am sure if GM does not have them NAPA, Holley, or some other company makes them. DO NOT try to clean them, just throw it out and replace with a new one.

I'll bet if you look hard enough, you could find a govt bailout program that covers this filter
