Re: Question re: C1 heater delete
i recall examining a 55 heater delete vette some years ago. the three piece cardboard insulation on the cockpit side of the firewall DID NOT have holes in the cardboard to accomidate the heater hoses or heater motor. can't recall if the holes were present in the firewall fiberglass panel.. mike- Top

Re: Question re: C1 heater delete
Hum, this question is interesting...
First, there was no heater delete option as the base car came without a heater and the option was to add FOA 101, deluxe heater. Heater delete came about on mid-year cars where the heater became standard equipment...part of the base car.
The block-off plate or 'cover' that's shown is called out for the base car, but there are two points of interest here:
(1) The AIM page drawing depicting the installation of the cover kinda/sorta shows holes in the firewall well to the RH side of where the cover would install that agree with the routing of the pipes serving the heater core.
(2) When you flip to the FOA 101 option to see what the factory did when the heater option was installed, there's NO text calling for the drilling of holes in the firewall to service for the lines to/from the heater core.
So, now I'm curious! Either the holes were there on base cars and filled with 'something' that's not shown on the AIM drawing where the block-off cover goes on or there's something missing in the FOA 101 option to document where to drill holes in the firewall + the size of those holes...- Top

Re: Question re: C1 heater delete
My 58 is an original no heater car and the holes are there but have plastic or rubber plugs in them. The AIM shows the holes in Section B sheet 3 so it appears that the holes were in the firewall panel before assembly. Seems odd that the plugs are not called out though.- Top

Re: Question re: C1 heater delete
Here is a picture of the firewall and heater delete plate on my Serial # 934 1958. The car was reasonably original except for driveline parts. The plate has been repaired so hole sizes are correct for the short arm latches.Attached Files- Top

Re: Question re: C1 heater delete
You can't always trust AIM drawings as they were meant for internal use. But your comment and the picture Dennis posted of the rubber plug that's not called out convinces me the firewall holes WERE pre-drilled and plugged on base cars despite the AIM failing to call out the rubber plug(s). THANKS for the input!- Top

Re: Question re: C1 heater delete
OK, if you are talking "57" specific they had a piece of thick tar like paper that was cut and sealed over the lower outboard holes. I have a photo somewhere. This was in addition to the metal block off plate that is pictured above.

Re: Question re: C1 heater delete
Alright, you guys made me go outside and take a picture of my 61 which is definitely a factory no heater car. I didn't recall ever seeing any predrilled holes.
However, take a look at the photo and you will see they were in fact drilled and then covered. They were covered from the inside witht eh same material. They apparently then put some gummy stuff on the fire wall side.
