Both upper and lower were NATURAL finish. "Natural" does not mean shiny metal, either when new or, certainly, now. The original "natural finish" varied from semi-shiny bare steel to an almost black finish. Most often, it was a rather "dark brownish" color.

Original slotted nuts used for 1973 upper and lower ball joint applications were GM 301M material grade (SAE grade 8). You will have a very difficult time finding such nuts in today's automotive or industrial market.

Thanks again Joe,
I still have my originals but I couldn't tell if they were zinc or not. I'm glad there not so I don't have to replate and worry about hydrogen.

I'll torque and then a dash of clear.
