Mask or remove dash pads for console painting?

My center console is removed from car. I was going to mask off dash pads and then paint console, but it looks easier to remove dash pads and then paint. any advice or suggestions?

I am a great taper and I know I would never be happy with a tape job. It would just never be tight enough and I would always see under the edges or god forbid a paint line on the pads. I would have to remove them.

      Remove, without question.

To attempt to mask and paint usually yields amateurish results.

Good luck and let us see a photo of your results.

Have you ever done a really nice job on something that was sort of tough and went back a year or so later and said to yourself man I wish I hadn't done such a good job,
        I didn't think so , remove them,

thanks for your replies. I removed the dash pads, much easier than anticipated. In the process of cleaning up dash, will paint in next few days. Will try to post photo's

It's just like painting anything else to get the best job, first disassemble, second paint, and third assemble. No tape lines or overspray. A refinishing job done correct.
