6 to 7 years ago I bought a new (repop) set of Sunvisors. They came without any hardware so I bought a new kit from one of the suppliers but have never been able to get the pins installed. I am still working on the car so I don`t need them right away but have been frustrated not being able to get the pins installed. Before I throw away and buy another set has anyone else ran into this? It appears ti have a v-shaped metal inside the upholstery. I have run an awl in them to try and spread, resorted to a hammer, cursed, sweated but the visors won. I cannot get pins installed in any of the 4 ends. Visors were Mid America I think hardware LICS. The sunvisors are good looking pieces but not much good as they are. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Car is a coupe. Mike

Re: 65 Coupe Sunvisor Fit
I installed a set of repos on my 65 coupe (so I could in a mirror for my wife & save the orginals). I had problems too, I think I ended up cutting the mounting stud so it would go in enough. The chrome nut & bolt is also very fragile and break when you tighten. Good luck, Don H.- Top

Re: 65 Coupe Sunvisor Fit
Thanks Don, I think you had a similar problem as mine. I have worked on I think three different times over the last 5 or 6 years and wind up getting so mad with them that I put them back on the shelf. By the lack of responces there much not be a magic secret I didn`t know about. Thanks for the response. Mike- Top

Re: 65 Coupe Sunvisor Fit
It's an intentional interference fit... That's what allows the visor to retain the specific position you move it to.
I suspect the low response on this thread is most who've done this job know you have to 'fight' the beast using elbow grease and some temporary lubricant (e.g. WD-40) to get the rod fully seated in the visor...- Top

Re: 65 Coupe Sunvisor Fit
Thanks Jack! I am 305 lbs not as strong as I use to be and this thing has almost whipped me. Its to the point I don`t care if I destroy them I will install the pins one way or the other. They are no good like them are. I haven`t tried any type lube but will work with that and see what I can do. Worst case is buy another set if I mess these up. Thanks again for the response. Mike- Top

Re: 65 Coupe Sunvisor Fit
When the visor is installed on its axle pin and you raise/lower it, you've got the moment arm of the width of the visor working for you against the interference fit.
So, in addition to a little 'slippery' lube on the axle, try moving the visor in TWO directions at once as you install it on the shaft: (1) straight onto the shaft, and (2) rotate/wiggle the visor around the shaft as you do the insertion. The second action helps to 'spread' the shaft clip that's built into the visor...- Top
