Are there any stampings or marks on my 66 receiver drier that would tell me if it is the original one? Does anyone have any pictures? Thanks , DUTCH

Re: a/c receiver-drier stampings for 66 vette
Dutch - No stamping on an original factory installed mid-year AC receiver-drier that I am aware of that would differentiate an original factory installed piece from a NOS SERVICE part. But, there are sometimes letters stamped on the bottom of SERVICE receiver-driers that are not found on original production receiver-driers.
One way I have used to help determine if the receiver-drier is an original factory installed mid-year A/C receiver-driers is to examine the bottom of the receiver-drier. The original production receiver-driers had a ~1/2" x 1-3/4" rectangular (white) inspection sticker on the bottom that got painted over with black paint. So what you see on the bottom of original receiver-driers is either the remains of the sticker if the paint was applied thickly or a bare aluminum rectangle the size of the sticker because the sticker came off over the years.

Re: a/c receiver-drier stampings for 66 vette
I could not find any sticker, or painted sticker, or any sign of a sticker. What I did find on the old painted bottom was a faint stamping of the letters D6. Could this be of any meaning. Did all the old receiver-driers have the paper stamping on the bottom? DUTCH- Top

Re: a/c receiver-drier stampings for 66 vette
Dutch - From my experience I would expect if it was an original factory installed receiver-drier that it would have had the inspection sticker or the remains thereof. As with anything, there could always be deviations. I have to ask the question. What is the driver for having an/the original production installed receiver-drier. Pete- Top

Re: a/c receiver-drier stampings for 66 vette
The reason for all this attention is, I soon will be changing my compressor. I have installed a replacement receiver drier a couple years ago. I was just considering that if the receiver drier was original, I would see if I could rebuild it and install it again. thanks for all your replies. DUTCH- Top

Harry and Peter,
Just for your information, my '66s original receiver/drier has the aforementioned sticker on the bottom of the cannister. Yes, it's painted over with black paint. VIN #7216.

Re: a/c receiver-drier stampings for 66 vette
Dutch - In light of what you are wanting to do, it seem to me it's academic if the received-drier is original, but of more interest seems to be is the receiver-drier on the car now the original configuration even if it has been replaced. The 63-67 Corvette original configuration receiver-drier was available from Chevrolet Service Departments for a number of years. If the receiver-drier in the car now is not an original configuration piece, the same receiver-drier was used on many C60 equipped Chevrolet Motor Division passenger vehicles including Chevrolets & Chevelles of the same era. Re: a/c receiver-drier stampings for 66 vette
My thought to be original 67 VIN# 7471 receiver dryer has what looks like could be the remnants of a label on the bottom aprox 3/8 X 1 1/4. Would this label have been blacked out during assembly? No other markings visible yet, I may try cleaning the bottom to see what else remains. Does this tag size sound like anything you've seen before?- Top

Pete -- here's a mirror shot of the bottom of what I believe is the original on my early '65. Shows the shape of the sticker, although I can only make out what appears to be a (cream-colored) speck of paper the size of a match head. Don't appear to be stampings on the bottom of this one, although an NOS unit (circa 1983) and a 'donor' that I have do have 3 separate single character stamps (letters, digits) separated by about 30 degrees arc between them, but no evidence of a sticker.Attached Files- Top
