    Insurance during restoration?

I already know that my home onwer's insurance will not cover my unregisterred 69 Corvette while it is my garage being restored. Is it possible to get insurance to just cover it for fire/theft/vandalism/acts of God while it is being restored? Will the insurance cover any parts that are not physically on the vehicle and any time during the restoration? If so, what insurance companies do you suggest?

    Thanks,
    John

Before you have a claim insurance companys cover everything and take your money. Make a claim and they have 100 reasons why your not covered. The agent may be more important than the company. I'm all ears on this one.

Hagerty has a plan that covers cars that are not operable, but are under restoration. Still has to be kept in a locked garage.

what he said. i have all my corvettes and corvette parts insured with hagerty. the cars that dont run are still worth money. your house could flood or burn down and home owners will not cover them. hagerty also offers coverage when they are being trailered some where while being restored. its not alot of money to insure a car that is in pieces.

You've gotten some good tips on who to use, but I might add some information on who won't cover it during restoration.
Leland West Collector car insurance would not cover my Corvette during restoration. So far, that is the only insurance company I have found that will not cover a classic car during restoration.

Hagerty covered our '65 during restoration. They asked for photo's and how much $$$ do you want to insure it for? They acknowledged the value I asked for and wrote an Agreed Value policy. As the resto progressed I provided additional photo's and they kept upping the value.

Now the car is finished and they have written an Agreed Value policy so it can be driven on the road.

I've never had a claim so I can't vouch for their response to that, and I hope I never need to!

Hagerty covered my '57 while I was restoring it in 1996-7.

Hagerty is covering my 71 as it sits and I think about a restoration. Yes, they know it's a project and not on the road.
