Can someone identify what I see between the coils in the attached photo. It is only on the right side front spring, not on the left. Thanks

Re: 67 front spring, right side question
Since this car has C60, A/C, could the factory have put it there to offset the weight on the right side or do you still believe it was assembled that way sometime later in life to help spring height?- Top

Re: 67 front spring, right side question
That, my friend... is a spacer. It can be used as Rich said to adjust ride height, but the true purpose is to change the spring rate. Watch the NASCAR race tonight and look for crews using spring rubbers.
It is probably there to adjust the ride height. I know this because I found one (of a different design) in my right front spring after I bought the car. My car had reversed rims and oversize tires, and I assumed that the person put the spacer in for tire clearance. Strangely, it was only on the right side, so there may be a reason specific to C2s. Mine is a non-AC car.

Those devices were never used in production - it's an aftermarket "fix" part, installed well after the car was built.- Top

John,
When I was in high School I had a 61 Impala and I drag raced it like every kid my age. We used those spring spacers on the front coils for better weight distribution on take off. Just one of those dumb things you do as a kid.- Top
