    Re: Winter Storage

Keeping a low and stable humidity level is far more important than temperature. Condensation is the enemy. If you plan on working in the garage, choose a comfortable temperature for yourself, otherwise save some money and keep the garage cool. Cold air carries less humidity than warm

Avoid opening the garage door and shuffling snow and salt laden vehicles in and out.

Don't start the engine unless you plan on going for a good long ride that will warm everything to normal operating temp.

...and if you keep the garage cool keep a dehumidifier running. When the car and concrete are cold and there is a warmer and more humid than normal day there will be condensation everywhere. Even the tools in your tool box will rust, trust me!

The colder the air the less moisture it will hold in vapor form. So for a given concentration of water vapor, the lower the temerature gets, the closer it gets to the dew point.

The problem with winter storage in some places is condensation of water vapor in the air. This is most common when a spring cold front follows a spring warm front, and the temperature in the garage drops to below the dew point.

I did away with everything and bought a bubble, one of the best investments I have ever made. I recently bought a new C6 and ordered another bubble at Carlisle. If I were you I would look into it.

How do these control humidity levels in the air?

In reading the info and listening at Carlisle constant moving air does not allow condensation to form. At least that's what I was told, seems to work and at the same time you can throw a heavy tool at it and it just bounces off.

Probably because he's too dangerous with throwing tools around.

I live in far northern Maine and store my '58 in my unheated garage with a concrete floor. I place a sheet of clear poly on the concrete and drive the vette onto it. I cover the car and leave it until the snow goes and it warms into the 40's and 50's during the day. Also change the oil and remove the battery and store it in the cellar. I've done this for 28 winters .. not problems so far.

Moisture and Critters are the most dangerous. Both can be managed and maintained.
