    Holley 3810 High Idle

    Hi,
We recently received our 3810 back from being rebuilt. Everything is working fine however I am having trouble getting it to high idle. I have attached some photos of the choke. Can someone point me in th right direction? Thanks for the help.

If the choke is closing properly and the link is moving the cam, the high idle is adjusted by inserting a screwdriver in the slot in the metal bar shown in your center picture and bending it until the idle has reached the spec speed. As the choke opens, it will move the step cam to reduce the speed until the choke is full open and the bar will no longer be in contact with the cam. High idle speed is specified in the service manual.

      Hi Bill,
Thank you for the help. Pardon my ignorance but the cam is the yellowish plastic piece that I am looking at in picture 2? I know that when the throttle is pressed the cam should click up to allow the high idle to occur correct? This is not happening when the throttle is pressed before starting.
      Thanks again,
      Chuck

The cam is connected to the thermostatic coil in the manifold, and the length of the link between the coil and the cam can be adjusted. It will hang on the "hot engine" position until the throttle is depressed before starting, that's why the starting instructions always say to open the throttle on pump before starting. It's to allow the choke mechanism to set.

is the link adjusted by rotating it when removed from the carb or is the adjustment inside the stat housing?
            Thanks again.

Charles, If you look in your third picture the adjustment is made with the screwdriver slot bent in or out to raise the idle against the plastic step.

The fast idle is set when the engine is WARM and the link is set on the highest step position, then idle the engine to approx 1750 RPM.

                Chuck -

The length of the choke rod (from the remote thermo coil to the choke lever on the carb) is adjusted by using two pair of pliers at the bends in the rod.
