Spent the better part of today putting in a new positive battery cable on my 69. Can't remember the last time I had so much fun....not. Anyway, it's in except I'm having a difficult time getting the grommet for the positive cable installed. Can't reach it from underneath unless there's some serious dismantling of the drivetrain and pulling it through from the battery box side seems a little tough as well. Does anyone have experience with getting these installed.

Re: 69 battery cable install
Jim, put some liquid soap on the grommet twist it have a helper support the glass from the bottom when you are twisting and pushing the grommet. this was a hard for me take your time- Top

Re: 69 battery cable install
It is a very tight fit. I heated the grommet with one of my halogen worklights first, applied a liberal coat of Vaseline and spouted a stream of obscenities at the grommet to get it installed. Any one or combination of 2 techniques together was not enough. I will admit that my drivetrain was out, but I did pull from the battery box side.- Top

Re: 69 battery cable install
It's a wonderful job.
I remember doing it on my 69. Liquid soap, axle grease, etc., any type of lube will help.
It's almost as much fun as trying to install the "carpet plugs" through the firewall and rear bulkhead.

Re: 69 battery cable install
Thanks Jephrey, Chuck. I hadn't thought of using some heat to soften up the grommet and axle grease might be a good lubricant as well. If the drivetrain were out of the car, this whole job would have taken a half hour at most but with the car on jack stands and getting tools and fingers on the nuts holding the clips, well, lets just say, that was real special. jim- Top
