Has anyone used "Hot Stuff" (brand) exhaust manifold dressing on their cast iron manifolds? Any negatives? -Clark

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing
Yes, very messy, not going to fool anyone, I like the POR-15 Manifold paint, also not going to fool anyone but at least it is presentable. I have also heard good things about the Eastwood product.- Top

Calyx manifold dressing works very well. Just keep in mind you will lose points in judging for any dressing.1973 LS4 coupe. Dark Blue / Black. Turbo Hydra-Matic, PW, PB, PS, Rear Defog, Tilt/Tele, AC, Map Lamp, AM/FM.

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing
I like PreLube 6 best. After you run your engine, the excess burns off and you get a cast iron look. Just spray it again 6 months or so to keep it looking fresh. It's not a paint.
Good luck.

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing
I used the VHT cast iron paint, supposed to be good to 1200*. Put the manifolds in the oven to cure but make sure you do it when wife is not home.
My 63 exhaust is supposed to be orange and I would not hesitate to spray over the cured VHT, for now they look good with the VHT only.- Top

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing
I have used the Hot Stuff on all of my cars and like it. It lasts. I had used Calyx previously and found that it had to be touched up periodically. I applied the Hot Stuff with the manifolds on. Do a little wire brushing to clean off the scale and then apply it. Easy to do and it lasts. Looks good for a street driven car but, as others said, it won't fool anyone.- Top

Anthony, Please do not laugh at my question - I am just a girl, but can you apply the Prelube 6 with out removing the exhaust manifold from the engine? I have purchased POR 15 but have not apllied it yet and would rather put a product on that looks more natural.

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing
Yes you can use prelube 6 with the manifolds on the car and it won't get a deduction in most cases and makes the manifolds look good but not painted. Work it in with atooth brush then start the car and let it burn off. Put in on at least twice. As for calix those little silver spots on the frame may cause another deduction.Lyle

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing
From experience using PreLube 6 as a manifold dressing, when it burns off you will have L O T S of smoke where the carrier material burns off. It does look good though and I have been using it for years (thank you Patrick Hulst).

Thanks to Gary and Lyle for your responses. It is always good to know what to expect. I will shelve my por 15.

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing
Feed your Google search engine with 'Prelube 6' and you should learn all you want to know. Essentially, this is a lubricating product 'rifle shot' at wire rope/cable applications that's designed to sink in and displace moisture...- Top
