Re: 63-67 Alternator Stator Color Judging

Here's my original 67 (7F16) alternator (37A):

Note the ring between the halves is basically rust, and kinda looks like caramel.
However, if you take it apart to swap stators and rotors with a replacement, you'll find that the ring was actually painted black. Here's a shot of two stators (original on the left):

The color might be different on sizes other than the base engine 37A alternator. It should be noted that the capacity of these alternators is determined by windings in the stator. The 61 amp stator (on the right above ) which I put in my original, has heavier wiring and a slightly different windings.
