    69 spare tire compartment color

my spare tire compartment was pretty beat up so I took it out for repair and need to paint it to hide the repairs. I was thinking of painting it a satin black, any thoughts?

Oh, if I recall well (from some posts here and an article in a recent Restorer - if I'm right) painting the "tub" is not ultimately "correct".
Originally the tub was left in its black but unpainted "resin"-look.

But if you are to paint it to hide your repairs, I would recommend a fairly dull satin black finish...

I try to keep my 69 looking as stock as possible and if I am not mistaken I read where the tub was original fiberglass finish which was a gray color with satin black metal supports. I searched my Second Edition Winter 1997 NCRS Technical Information and Judging Guide, but could not find any comments on the color of the tub etc.

I will try to find the book that I got this info from. Anyway since my tub had been painted black I painted it a gray color with black satin metal supports. I will leave it like this until I can be sure.

        Okay, was that fiberglass-resin "grey-blackish"?

Tom, what color of gray did you paint the tub? Was it a real dark gray? It sure looks like my tub has not been painted but after the repairs to the fiberglass, I'm guessing it would look better painted.

The gray I used was a light gray, sort of battleship gray. I'm not saying this is the correct way to go. It is just what I did. It looks good to me and makes the metal straps stand out. It might be possible for me to remove all the paint from mine and it be correct, I just don't know. I am still looking for the article that encouraged me to paint mine light gray. I will post the info as soon as I can find it.
