    C3 - Brake Calipers/Pads from VBandP?

I'm looking to get new calipers for my 71 small block. I see that VB&P have a new 2nd design stainless steel/O-Ring with the Delco Moraine and casting number. They are also painted black (as the originals). Has anyone purchased or seen these? Are they a good option?

Also, when I get the calipers, what type of pads should I get? Should I replace any other brake parts? I drive the car about 2/K miles per year and it's mostly local driving.

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg,

I have 3 calipers from VB and P sitting in the barn right now, having arrived a couple of weeks ago. Each is painted black and is a "new" ACDelco caliper fitted with the O-ring pistons.

    However,

if it were my car, I'd get the rebuilt calipers (ask for correct casting numbers) with the O-ring pistons and get the black powdercoating option. The price per unit will then be about the same as a new caliper, and the powdercoating will last a lot longer than black paint. Judged or not, the powdercoating will last a lot longer and cast iron + paint will still equal rust in a couple of years. The only reason the owner did not go that route is that we replaced one caliper last year and it is painted, so he wanted to match.

Also, get the plain $16/set brake pads. They're the closest to what your car had originally, and anything else is really just a waste of money.

Thanks Patrick! I figured that about the pads but wanted to make sure. Do you recommend any other items? I see they include hoses and some clips etc on their kits. Should I order those pieces as well?

If there's any chance you will use them, their kits are by far the most cost effective way to order them. It would have been about the same price to order 3 new calipers as to order a whole kit of 4 rebuilt calipers and all the accessories!

FYI, if you go to Bl**mington this week then VB&P is offering 20% off at their booth. Or, if you can't make it, call them and mention Bl**mington as the discount code for 20% off.

          Patrick,

Thanks for the advice. I looked into it and I think that is the route I'll go! Do you know the correct casting numbers for the calipers for my 71?

          Thanks,
          Greg

Joe L posted them not too long ago (November? December?).
See if you can find them in the archives.

I have VB&P calipers all the way around and am very pleased.
Brakes are more important than horsepower on the Autobahn.
I have also ordered various other items from them with no problems.

Once, they called me after I had placed an internet order and told me that from the looks of the other parts I had ordered that I had asked for the wrong part. I had indeed asked for the wrong part, and they were professional enough not only to notice, but to help me get what I actually wanted. That has earned them much repeat business from me.

                Patrick,

Thanks again for the advice. I ordered the remanufactured calipers and asked for the powder coat in black. Since I only ordered two calipers, they didn't charge me for the powder coat. Also, I got the 20% off.

Thanks again....saved me a good amount of money!
