    C2 Documentation Story

Cool documentation story I wanted to share. I have in my collection the warranty book and protecto plate for 1966 Corvette #1500. A while ago I decided to decipher the info for the fun of it. This revealed #1500 to be a Nassau Blue / Black Leather L72 427 4-SPD convertible with 4.11:1 posi sold at Clay Northcutt Chevrolet in Enid Oklahoma on Oct 7, 1965.

So last week I am looking through Rick Miller's 1988 book "An Investment In Excitement - Buying a 1963-1967 Corvette Sting Ray". To my surprise on page 148 I saw pictured the original window sticker for the same 1966 Corvette #1500. I compared documents, and it is a perfect match right down to the 4.11 ratio and the Enid OK dealership. A few more options were revealed on the window sticker including C07, N14 and K66. I thought this was a cool story to tell because it is such a long-shot that I would be able to connect these two documents. Having a VIN like #1500 made it easier for me to spot the connection for sure.

Craig, I have the same book rushed to page #148 and did not find a 1966 window sticker but a source list for the book. I found a 66 window sticker on page 61 but the Vin number is blacked out. Kind of weird.

It would be great if you could return the POP to the car. I had a previous owner of my 1966 keep the original owner's manual as a memento when he sold the car in 1981. He returned it to my car in 2006. It's always nice to get that old paper back with the car.

Craig, living in the state of Oklahoma, I have reasearched the older Oklahoma dealerships from the 1950s and 1960s. My Dad was a big "car guy", and took me to a Chevrolet dealership virtually every Saturday to car shop, or buy service parts for our Chevys. I have fond memories of those neon lit Chevrolet service signs, at Bill White Chevrolet in Tulsa.
Northcutt Chevrolet (and Buick) is still in business in Enid, Oklahoma, and owned by the same family. The original owner Clay Northcutt was killed in a plane crash around 1966. In that era, GM agreed to let his, then 26 year old son keep the franchise. With the young man taking over the dealership, it was known as the place to buy a Corvette or muscle car ar a "deal".
That son I'm describing is about 70 years old today, and still operates the dealership along with a couple of his sons. They also own a Toyota store in Enid. I wonder if possibly he has a copy of the original sales invoice for that Corvette you have the docs for. They have a website, if interested. Google search: Northcutt Chevrolet Buick.
              Hope this helps,
              Ridge

                    Craig,
Having lived in Enid twice, 64-65 going to pilot training, and 91-97 teaching flight sims at Vance AFB, I am rather familiar with Enid and Northcutts. Believe the current owner's name is Craig and he is a Corvette guy and I am sure would be willing to help you. Northcutts sponsors the local Corvette club, which is a good one with several NCRS members. I can put you in touch with some if you want local followup.
Of interest, Al Grenning has a photo he shows at presentations of a window sticker from Northcutts that lists an early 66 427/450 car before GM lowered the HP.

                      Craig,
Mine must be a 1988 edition. No print date but printed by Padre printers with a 1988 copyright date.
