    Dealer code question

Just discovered my build sheet yesterday. See my other post. Dealer zone looks like 02, dealer number looks like 295 or 255. My protectoplate/ warranty book shows a stamp from palmyra motors which according to the dealer code search on this site is zone 12, dealer 500. Is it common for the P-o-P/ warranty card and tank sticker to disagree? I can't find a ref for the zone/dealer on the tank sheet. Any thoughts? My P-o-P looks legit. Not a repro and car has so far checked out otherwise.

Perhaps a dealer trade --Palmyra Motors had a customer who wanted a white BB and another dealer had that car. Used to happen all the time, and still does.

That's what I assumed but wasn't sure if it was common back in 1970. Trying to contact the original owner to confirm this.

      Thanks,

      Jordan

That would be your best move. Is there a salesman's name with the documentation your got? Sometimes a salesman will put their card in the PoP. If still alive, the salesman could also answer these kinds of questions.

          Jordan,
I too have a 70 LT-1 ordered and purchased from Palmyra Motors. I had done some research on Palmyra years ago and they claimed to be the World's largest Corvette dealer back in the day but I'm sure they wern't the only dealer to claim that. There is a member of this DB that was a salesman at Palmyra back in the mid 70's. As Terry mentions cars were swapped between dealers all the time. You have a situatiuon where some other dealer ordered your car and Palmyra had a customer that wanted that exact car. My particular car was ordered on June 17, 1970, built on July 8, 1970 and delivered to the first owner on July 24, 1970. Years ago I spoke to Howard Van Bortel who was the owner of Palmyra in the 60's and 70's and was able to get a few pieces of memoribilia from him. Good Luck with your search.

When I spoke to Howard a few years ago his daughter had a Suburu dealership in the area also. I guess they are just car people.

I sold Corvettes at Palmyra Motors late 73 - August 76. We use to buy all the New Corvettes from other Chevrolet Dealers. We Never traded Corvettes. We bought every new Corvette we could find that any Chevrolet Dealers was willing to (with new car sales card) sell. 4 speed or automatic, we'd buy it if Chevrolet Dealer was willing to give it up. I'd spend a "slow" day calling Dealers listing on Zone sheets (still have some) and buy Corvettes from anywhere from $500.00 to $1250 over invoice. This was the going price (advertised in Automotive News weekly) dealers where willing to sell and buy Corvettes for.
We were the largest back in the day. We sold more Corvettes then Harry Mann (claimed largest on West Coast) and Malcom Konner (NJ). On any Sunday you could pick up the New York Times paper and we'd have a listing every Sunday advertising the 50 to 100 Corvettes we always had in stock.
We also were the Largest Rolls Royce Dealer in the County at the time. People would fly into Rochester, NY and we'd pick them up at the airport. They would then drive home on a temporay 30 day reg their new Corvette or Rolls Royce. I personally sold more Corvettes than each of all the Chevrolet Dealers in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse during my time at Palmyra Motors Inc. PS very rarely did we even trade a regular Chevy, Oldsmobile or Chrysler Plymouth no other dealers liked doing business with us because of the huge amount of cars we sold.

My 70 LT-1 was sold new in Atlanta. The tank sticker is zone 22 dealer 179 The 9 I am not possitive of but that would be Owensboro Ky. 380 miles from Atlanta. I have talked to the original owner. He didn't have them find the car and remembers the first time he saw it it was backing off the truck. So if it was a dealer exchange my car was sent for another. How far would be logical for an exchange? My car was built Jan22 so not many around at the time. What other reason for a car destined for KY to be in Atlanta. I asked original owner if it had many miles on it and he said if it had had more than 5 on it he wouldn't have bought it. He also seemed to think it was spring at least when he bought it. So where would it have been for 3 or 4 months? He has the original bill of sale somewhere and I told him I would like to know the date on it. He's still looking for it.

While we are on the topic of Dealer codes....Does anyone know them for Williams Chevrolet in Anderson, SC? That is where my '66 came from and I do know they are now out of business. So far I have been unable to find them. I do have the P O P.
Many thanks and hope no one minds if I add this question.
