Painting Original 70 PB Master Cylinder

Well I did it once and the DOT 3 ruined it with just the slightest spill. When I painted it the first time there was absolutely no rust since it was just rebuilt.

After the leak it now has a very little rust on the out side and just a very tiny bit on the inside.

Should I just repaint the outside and take my chances? Should I coat with POR15 and spray the flat black before the POR15 dries?

Should I have it disassembled and cleaned before painting?

I will be using DOT5 when I refill the system.

Man I hate doing things twice

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Bill,

I used some of the VHT caliper paint on my brake calipers this winter. One of the calipers leaked where the soft hose screws in, and 2 months later I just wiped it up with no loss of paint. I'd give it a try.

I will never use POR 15.

Patrick, I'm curious. Why the dislike for Por-15?

        Patrick,

What do you think about painting over the very minor rust? That is the only reason I was considering POR15.

        Thanks,

        Bill

          Yes, I've used it previously.

          The short answer:
Independent testing has shown better products. http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...Y&iMainCat=688
Yes, I know it's posted on the Eastwood site but I agree with the results. I have received this magazine for many years and saw the original article.

It is impossible to remove - from anything. Ever.
It's too glossy for almost any application.
It's a poor excuse for doing something right the first time.

          But that's just my opinion.
