    Horn Restoration

Guys, I have a set of horns from my '56 that I would like to have restored. These are the 759 and 760 horns that are dome shaped or "sea shell" as some folks refer to them. Can anyone recommend someone to restore these? I spoke to a fellow in the Chicago area who quoted me $250 to restore the pair. I thought this sounded a little high. I removed the horns from the car this past October. They still blew at that time. Paragon also restores them but you have to send the horns to them first before they can give a quote. I figure they have someone who does this service for them. Can anyone out there give me a recommendation? Thanks in advance!

Search Ron Goralski. He has been doing horns for many years.

Dick, I called Ron about restoring my horns. He seems like a super guy and knows about horns. He said he does not have parts to go back as far as mine. He referred me to a fellow in the Chicago area who I am sure is good. I thought $250 was a little high especially since the horns still blow. Considering the age of them, I guess it may not be out of line after all.

Dennis Portka restored the original horns from my '66 and they came out looking great. It wasn't cheap when I had it done 7 or 8 years ago. Dennis advertises in the Driveline, I believe.

if Ron referred you to the individual in Chicago I would go with him - Dennis Portka will be higher than the $250.00!

I used Dennis Portika, out of Hamburg NY, as well. He restored one of my 1965 horns and provided the second one from his restored inventory. He was not cheap, but the workmanship was top notch... No deduction on the horns when judged last fall.

Brooks - I suggest that horn "restoration" involves basically the same amount of work, i.e. disassembly, replacing old parts, reassembly, etc. whether the horns work or not. If you are just looking to do something cosmetic like painting, you can do that yourself and you already know the horns work. Why have them resored? Pete

Brooks, I think the rebuilder in the Chicago area you were referred to is Joe Perri. I have seen Joe's ads in some issues of The Driveline.
I used Joe Perri a couple of years ago and was very pleased with his work. Sorry, but I don't remember the price.
The telephone numbers I have for Joe are: (312) 307-1977

                  Hope this is helpful, Ridge.
