Thanks to Wiiliam Lacy and Michael Hanson for posting photos that might be helpful to Bruce Fitter.
I am waiting for anyone with correct 1970-1972 LS-5 dipsticks to chime in and post photos. This may be like those RC-15 radiator caps...no one single manufacturer produced them in exactly the same way.

A buddy of mine was cleaning his garage last year and came across this dipstick and knew I had Corvettes so he gave it to me. He had a speed shop at one time and owned a couple Corvettes back in the day. One was a 65 Coupe 396. He said he thought this dipstick was out of it. Would the 396 and 427 use the same dipstick? I don't think the tube in the second picture is correct though.

1965 396 and 1966-E67 Corvettes with 427 used the same dipstick. However, I've never seen one that was configured like the one shown in your photo. The dipstick tube shown, from what I can see of it, looks like a tube for a block-mounted type installation. No big blocks ever used a block-mounted-style dipstick tube.

Henry, That Dipstick looked more like the one I had in my 64 Vette with the 365 engine, it was plated as well.

I am completely unaware of the flattened loop configuration, even for 70-74 big blocks. However, as I mentioned in another post, there must have been a secondary supplier that made them this way. Original dipsticks that I have made note of were not of this configuration.

Melissa Neiman's 1972 Corvette LS-5 convertible Top Flighted in San Antonio in the 2006 Nationals. Her dipstick, exactly like those photos I posted of mine, has the flattened loop like mine. Her dipstick passed with flying colors without comment from the judges.

Joe, The tube in the picture doesn't go with the dipstick. I had a SB dipstick with that tube stuck on it and for some reason even unknown to me I put it in the picture with the BB dipstick. Senior moment I guess.

Bruce, this one does kind of have a shine to it but as far as I can tell it's not been plated. I don't know if my buddy thought if he polished it enough it would turn to Chrome or not. It's hard telling with him.

I'm not sure I'd go that far with regard to the RC-15, but that's a different thread.
