New Fuel Pump - Clacking Noise

I replaced my fuel pump today (69 350) and all seemed well so I went on a test drive around the block, again all seemed fine. Put it back on the lift and raised it up to inspect for leaks - all good. Started car again to drive off the lift and I get this loud clack-clack-clack. Opened the hood to find it, and its its coming from the pump. Sound went away after a few seconds, but then I could still hear a faint ticking like a bad lifter that's not as certain where its coming from. After a minute or two, the clacking resumed from the fuel pump again, for only a few seconds and stopped. I shut off the engine and checked the oil just to make sure. Pump was an AC 40658 from Paragon.

Did I just unluckily get a lemon fuel pump or could I have messed something up that would cause the pump to clack like that? Anyone else with a similar experience? What do I check?

Phil, The fuel pump arm is hanging up, it is usually because of a broken or missing return spring. I would return it to Paragon. Dave
