No, I didn't say that. Is the car supposed to have an aluminum rad with no cap?

What does your judging manual say?

I was thinking 68 390hp cars didn't have expansion tanks..I asked the guy if he added it he said no it's original to the car..

          weird.

I get so tired of seeing cars people want 50k plus for and they have all kind of bubba things done to them.

Makes me want to buy new because 95% of these old vettes out there have had redneck owners who ruined them in a lot of way and it's us that us that has to sort them out again! gets on my nerves..

            68 390 hsp and L88 had expansion tanks, 400 and 435 hsp didn't.

And you're 100% without a doubt sure on that?

Ahhh, you may want to pick a different hobby if you believe your duty in life is to right other's perceived wrongs. That's not what NCRS is about either.

That's why the 4-star/bowtie cars have the value that they have---they have not been bubba-ized. And that's why the Top flight and Duntov cars have the value they have--because all the corrective surgery has been done.

Anyone else? still not 100% sure it's supposed to be on this car. Not that the guys above are wrong just wanted to hear what more people think on the subject so I know for 100% sure.

In 68 the only BB cars to have an aluminum expansion tank was the L88. All other had a copper radiator with a direct fill and integral expansion tank. This is what the JG states.

You can look at a 5 star bowtie car at http://www.sinorprestigeauto.com/

Remember 68's had cooling issues when they first came out, so people/dealers may have tried things to solve this on their own.

Generally, the rule of thumb is this:
                        1) aluminum radiator: aluminum expansion tank
                        2) copper radiator; no expansion tank

                        (2) doesn't hold true with 69-72 bb with AC cars (brass expansion tank)

That's correct. For 1968, the ONLY big block that used an external supply tank was the L-88. No others did.

For 1969-72, things changed. For these years, ALL big blocks used an external supply tank. No exceptions.
