3904390 BB oval port heads

I have a set of bare BB heads 3904390 both with late '66 casting dates , H 15 6 and I 26 6. Were these ever used on any year of Corvette ? Are they fairly common ? Thanks, Craig

I think they were used on other Chevys too. A good source is Alan Colvin's books.

The GM #3904390 cylinder heads were used across the Chevrolet line, including Corvette, for 1967 oval port applications. However, they were only used for the early part of the model year, from the start of 1967 model year production through about December, 1966. Your cylinder heads are consistent with that period. Considering that the 3904390 heads were used for all oval port, big block applications for a period of about 4-5 months and considering that the vast majority of big blocks during that period were oval port, I expect that there were a lot of these heads originally manufactured. Just how many are still out there, who knows?
