    c2/c3 Aluminum Body Dolly Revisted

I have an update with 3d design renderings of the body dolly, but still looking for help on measurements on a c3 69-72. Requirements for measurement are listed below. Thanks from anyone who can help
    Earlier Post -
I am in the process of building the ultimate dolly and trying to accomodate C2 and C3(up to 72) cars. I have read all the gm frame layout drawings and posted references for body mounting hole locations and have determined physically measuring an actual frame is the best. I have completed my C2 drawing locations for a reference and a table for the same measurements for 68-72. All measurments are to the top and center of the mounts. The rear mount is the only one requiring a bit of work. I put a rod in the center of the rear mount that dropped down 10" and then put a long straight edge across all three frame mounts forward of the last mount to get the horizontal measurement and the rise to the top of the mount, see note 1 on the PDF attached. If anyone has a good bare frame around that could help me I would appreciate it. After this is complete I will post a 3D picture of the finished dolly which will allow for changes in height and flipping the body to work on the bottom.

    Thanks Dave

Looks good. A couple of things you might want to look at. If you look at just the frame datum dimensions, you do not see the body/frame relationship. If you look at most vettes, you will see that the rear fender curve inward, and hang down below the frame mount datums. It is hard to see from your preliminary layouts without dimensions, but it appears that with the last picture, if you had a body mounted on the device, the rear fenders could possibly hit the vertical columns. Also, it looks like your rear body mount pickup points slope rearward, which is good, but you want double check to make sure that the inward curve doesn't contact the vertical portion of these mounts. Just areas to look out for.

hi exactly what Thomas says about the rear fender clearance is the problem i ran into wheen i built mine . i had to cut the 2 rear body supports off and modify them . i built mine out of steal mostly because of price ,i used my frame as a jig and worked down from it to the base . i put my bare frame on a cheif eazyliner frame machine with a lazer measuring system , verifying its straightness , then lifted it 3 feet in the air and leveling it to the frame rack table .then i slid my 4"X 4" tube base on to the rack under the frame . then used 1 1/2 square tubing for all the uprights . but like i said ,i then ran into a clearance problem to the rear fenders when i went to lower the body . the lower portion of the rear fender really curves inward . when the snow melts here this week i can take a few pics of it if you would like > i included one with the body on the jig ,it worked great and made the body very transportable .Don if you look close at the picks you can see where on the rear body supports i cut them off and leaned them in to clear the lower quarters.

Thanks Don and Tom, the height of the uprights fit into the quarters cleanly with no interference anywhere. The back two are a little close and may move forward a bit. Thanks again for the input - I believe that you both looked at the pdf containing the body dimensions.
