Kirk - You've got the makings of a really good article for the Restorer here. Don't be surprised if you get "the call" from Vinnie. This would be great info to share with the broader NCRS audience. Nice job and thanks for sharing.

      Nice installation job.
I have done a few of my cars with Dynamat (very similar product) and the results are excellent.
While installing I found that using a heat gun will make conforning to different shapes becomes much easier.
In my 65 coupe I did the inside of the roof and the doors and the noise reduction is really good. The rest of the car is also done primarilly for heat purposes and again the results are great.
I also did a 62 which does not have a heater. In the past while driving in cool weather the car heated up by the heat coming through the floors and firewall. No more heat, I guess the heater will go back in the car.

I did the roof and inner doors on a coupe also, really pleased with the results. Used all of 70 sq ft of the hd dynamat

        Steve ,
The bulk pack of Hushmat is 30 sheets 12" X 24" for a total of 60 sq. ft.
Dynamat comes in a pack of 18" X 32" for a total of 36 sq. ft.
The online prices are the best way to buy and the cost seems compareable although prices are without shipping which is high due to weight and package size.

              Kirt:
Just a couple of thoughts about the carpet project.
              1. I see from your pics that you have not removed the outboard seatbelts. The new carpet has the holes already cut in and made to go under the seatbelt. I had to borrow the right allen hex socket from my friend who has all the tools.
              2. In another post a guy suggested punching any needed holes using a small soldering iron to melt through. It keeps the carpet from running. I used it for the bolts on the rear of the console and the rear trim as well as the carpet that was under the sill plates.
              3. Have you read the posts with pics on how to cut out the flaps for the seat bolts?? It was a huge help, I only messed up one of the flaps.
Let me know if you need the info on that post.
Good luck when the glue arrives.
              Jack

Can't get those seat belt bolts to move one bit. I have the correct allen wrench and they are just frozen in place. I'm afraid I will have to cheat on this one and cut the carpet around them. Bums me out, but I don't want to destroy the bolts.

Removing seat belt bolts; use a metric allen head wrench

                  Kirk,

If the seat belt bolts you're talking about are the allen head bolts, I found that an 8mm (I think that's the size; it's been a few years) metric allen head wrench provides a tighter fit than the "correct" english size. You might have to tap the wrench into the allen socket, but using the metric size will greatly reduce the risk of stripping the head.

I had trouble removing my belt bolts, had to apply spray.
In order to get spray(kroil brand name) you have to get long
spray tip up and between the frame and the foot well (its tight
but can be done,in order to get spray on the rusted end of the bolt.
good luck, you will be glad you did it,before you put the rugs in.

Was wondering how to access those bolts. I've been dripping stuff on the head of the bolt for a couple of days. I will try and eyeball where you are talking about and get some stuff up there as well.

Kirk, after you've sprayed the bolts from the frame side with Kroil Oil (www.kanolabs.com) a couple of times and let soak for a day try spraying with CRC Freeze-Off about 4 to 6 times at 5 minute intervals. Give that process a go. It's worked well for me on other bolts. Good luck, Gary....

Is there a possibility of the Hush Mat backing glue bleeding through the door skin when attached to the inside surface of the door.

I will be painting my 66 roadster (already stripped to bare fiberglass) and would hate to find the backing adhesive bleeding through the doors and cause the new paint to loose adhesion.

                            Bill,

I really don't know. It is an adhesive backing and it certainly isn't on the product heavily. I would call the company and check. I know Hushmat is used on doors to quiet cars, so my guess is it should be fine.

I bought mine from Summit, it arrived in a Hushmat box, even though they don't identify the manufacturer on their website:

The car already "sounds" quieter and I'm sure the heat blocking benefits of the Hushmat will help this summer during those long drives when the console heats up. Next I'll be gluing the carpet underlayment down - hopefully I'll be able to finish that this weekend and be ready for gluing the carpet down next week. Taking it nice and slow. The Hushmat is great stuff to work with and very easy to install!!

So how well did the Hushmat work to reduce heat and noise during your summer travels? Did you take measurements with an IR gun or noise meter?
