Re: More progress on the body off
Hi Chris
Looks like you making really good progress. Nice ball joints.
I would just put a dab of yellow paint on the steering box and leave it.
The Zinc coating looks a bit shiny, more like cad. You should be OK.
Best of luck.

Re: More progress on the body off
Thanks Mike, yup we're planning on "dabbing" up the paint where appropriate. I have this delusional idea that I could get a Duntov award, so I'm trying everything I can. At the same time, I'm going for long term reliability, etc since I'm 35 years old (today in fact), and will never be selling the car. I don't want to have to tear it down this far ever again. There certainly are places on the car where I'm going to get dinged for points, but I'm hoping for the best. Should be judged in 2010.Chris Enstrom

Re: More progress on the body off
Looks like what I was doing last yr as well.I saw your note about the springs going in next.I wanted mine to look as natural as possible (like original) however I wanted them to look that way 10 yrs from now.I gave them a couple coats of clear to protect them.It darkened them up one shade, but like I said at least they won't be brown next yr.Be careful compressing those springs!!!- Top

Re: More progress on the body off
Thanks for all the kind words you guys. I have help, a local guy who has been tinkering on midyears for a very long time.
I'll post more news articles when we make more progress.
As I mentioned earlier, the next close-in goal is suspension. I've got to pound down the tabs on the diff cross member, install it, and wait for the diff to be rebuilt.
I've got a lot of parts sent out right now that should be coming back soon. Among them are:
-carb
-brake booster
-water pump
-diff
More news soon, thanks for following along.Chris Enstrom
