    daytopna 500 corvettes 2/15/09

was at the daytona 500 on 2/15/09. during the driver intros they had a slew of convertible corvettes (30+) on pit row all lined up and as each driver was announced they got into one for a quick ride down pit row. the majority of the vettes were later models but there were quite a few very nice c1, 2 and 3's there. from the license plates on the cars, they looked to be mostly florida cars but there were out of state plates. that would be cool to drive dale jr down pit row in my 69 (but would have to bring it down from ny!). do they normally do this "corvette chaufering" for driver intros? ( my first daytona 500). i wonder how the vettes are chosen, maybe a local corvette club?

local corvette clubs as there was a article in the paper here about this as GM who was in charge of suppling the corvettes. since the GM money problem they did not want to ship 43 new corvettes down to daytona. i am working on a deal with chevy for our corvette club to supply corvettes for the NASCAR race at poconos or the glen.

I'll volunteer to pace the Pepsi 400 in July with my 63. Wonder if the field can keep up?

Do you think GM will still be around and not in bankruptcy by the time the races at Pocono or the Glen arrive?

as long as NASCAR is not bankrupt they will need cars to haul the drivers around the track before the race.

Did anyone catch the mint restored 1975 Corvette convertible that was won as a prize on the television game show, The Price is Right, a week ago? The host, Drew Carey, announced that it was the neatest prize given since he was named host.
In the credits at the end of the show, thanks was given to dealer Corvette Mike.

Ken, our club, Ponce Inlet Corvette Club, was the 'host' club for Daytona speed week(s). As previously mentioned, Chevrolet decided not to provide festival cars for this event. It was kind of a last minute deal and came together nicely thanks to our club officers.
A great experience to say the least and my son got some great pics on thursday. I had Jeff Gordon for the first twin and Bobby Labonte for the second.
On Saturday and Sunday, we did full laps (on the apron) which was a blast.

                A couple of pics...BTW, I had the '70.

Cool pictures! Great job guys. I had to watch the race this year from the TV and, as I recall, they had new Camaro Pace Cars. Wonder if we'll see more of those at the next races.
