    59 Door Opening Reinforcement

Does anybody have plans for reinforcement bars that attach to the door openings when the doors are removed on a 59?

No plans, but for my '57 I used a piece of 1/2 in black pipe (7/8 OD), made 1/8 in thick plates for each end with bolt holes to fit the upper hinge mount point at front and the striker plate at rear. I welded the pipe solidly to the rear plate and welded a 3/8 nut in the pipe at the front, then ran a 3/8 bolt through the front plate (head behind the plate), added a lock nut on it, then into the nut in the pipe. This gave me the ability to adjust the length and put a slight tension on the brace when the body was in the "at rest" position. I left enough bolt length exposed to allow pliers or vise grips to grasp the threads to adjust, but you could grind flats or weld another nut on to use a wrench.

Hope this helps. Nothing sophisticated, but it worked.

Your method sounds pretty good. I never thought of having the adjustment nut and bolt. Thanks for the info,.
