68 hard top doesn't have chrome tips?

I have a hard top in good shape for a 69-72. It has the chrome tips on the back of the deck. All my information is telling me this was true for a 1968. I was wondering I could just remove them and have the end finished to match the rest of the top? If not wondering if someone might have a 68 they would be willing to trade for? any help?

No protective tips were installed on the hardtops until December 68 (which would be for the 69 model year).

The date code of his window glass should confirm the top to be 69 & later...

wonder how many 68 hardtop owners added the chrome tips on their hardtops?
68 owners added the 69 fender louver trim and also installed "Stingray" on the front fender.
