    C3: Transmission mount rubber separating

    Hi everyone,

I have a '69 4 spd and noticed that the tranmission mount may be bad. There is a small gap between the rubber and the steel at the top. Should I replace it or will it be okay once everything is tightened down? I checked Paragon and all they had for a replacement was listed as "imported". Anyone know the best place to get a replacement?

    Thanks!

I can't tell where the gap you have actually is. There is normally a "void" on these mounts which is often covered by a "skin" of rubber on the ends. The "skin" has no functional purpose, though; it's just a "vestige" of the molding process. So, if that's what you're talking about, it's no problem. On the other hand, if you're talking about an actual SEPARATION of the rubber from ANY of the steel components of the mount, the mount MUST be replaced. In this failure mode, the "gap" will be right at any point where the steel meets the rubber.

I don't know of any mounts currently available that are not "imported". I only recommend the use of rubber mounts.

I doubt that there are any.
You might be lucky enough to find an older NOS GM one on ebay or at Carlisle, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I installed an "imported" one on my 71 13 years ago. It fit fine and looked very much like the original.
