C2 Upper Cowl Restoration

I removed the two air inlet grilles in the upper cowl wiper arm area. I noticed the interior of the cowl under the grilles appears to have some corrosion taking place on the bottom front seam. I would like to clean this area up and reseal it, it is currently painted body color. From what I have read it should be painted black. Has anyone else had this problem and what is the best approach to repairing it?

Hey Dave,

The only metal in the upper cowl are the wiper pivots. The upper cowl is all fiberglass. What you might be seeing is the factory tar sealant that was "gooped" and "poured" in there by the factory with zero emphasis on beauty. The area was sprayed with body color and then "blackout". What usually happens is the old paint on the tar sealant begins to crack and peel which doesn't look good. But, no corrosion should be going on.
