Anyone know what was the exact type of screw used in production for the 54 distributor hold down? The thread is 5/16-18 and I was told that it was not a hex head bolt.
Can't say for 150% sure but a photo of this bolt in the 55 Pasenger Car shop manual shows it is just a hex bolt without any head markings or slots. Seems to me that's the same as the bolt on my 54 but can't check right now as too much stuff is piled on the hood (car cover is on too). {Wife needed space in my garage to make room for Christmas decorations. You know how that is...}
I've since looked at a bunch of engine photos from over the years. Very few photos show that part. I did see one slotted nut. Most were just plain with no markings or slots. Altogether I've only been able to see the nut in 4 photos though.
