"Restorer" magazine article from 2003- need a copy
"Restorer" magazine article from 2003- need a copy
Hello All, doing a nut/bolt resto on a 57 and just joined NCRS. Can someone email me a copy of Richard Brodeur's article about chassis finishes from one of the 2003 issues of the Restorer magazine?
Re: "Restorer" magazine article from 2003- need a copy
Ken, you might e-mail Richard as he's a TDB member. FYI - Richard's head markings are more concentrated on 58-60. Some of Richard's references for 56-7 are not correct. /Welcome to NCRS. It's a GRRRREAT organization. Gary....

Gary's idea is a good one. Richard just might have an electronic version of his story. Failing that I can print it out on paper and mail it to you the old fashioned way if you PM me your street address. I could do an electronic version if you have PageMaker.

Thanks Gary and Terry, Gary, I have good resources for bolt markings, I am trying to sort out the difficult questions regarding which bolts are "blackened", which are not, what is painted black and what is not. Reviewing the previous threads it is obvious that no one really knows, some have a good general idea, so I need to collect all "good general ideas." Also, it would be very valuable to know any errors you perceive in the article regarding the 57 model year.
Terry, if I can figure out how to PM you, I would be very very grateful for a copy of the article.

Ken, my comments were regarding head markings in Richard's article. Right off I don't recall any differences about finish. Gary....
p.s. please use the year model 56-7 icons at the bottom it makes posts easier to search on in the archives, thanks

Ken, scanned copy of Richard's 2002 article is attached. Gary....
p.s. the 56-7 JM is undergoing an update and a "finish" chart is planned for the manual - unfortunately it's not completed yet
Re: "Restorer" magazine article from 2003- need a copy
Ken,
I just came across this post, and I'll send you an electronic copy of the paint finishes.
As to the head markings, I have a done extensive research on this with many many others who have documented the head markings from their research, so I feel that it is farily representative of these cars. However, as in many things in this hobby, there are few areas where there are absolutess.
Re: "Restorer" magazine article from 2003- need a copy
Richard, was attempting to point out that your research on bolt head marking is for 58-60 and the 56-7 bolt head markings are different in some cases. Didn't mean to imply your data was flawed, so hope it didn't come across that way. Merry Christmas, Gary....
Re: "Restorer" magazine article from 2003- need a copy
Hello Richard, thanks for your offer to help. I am reasonably good on bolt markings. It seems that many bolts were "Blackened." I am assuming that I just heat them with a torch and throw them in some used motor oil to get the desired finish............anyone have thoughts on that?
Also, is the "third arm" painted or unpainted?
How about the king pin thrust washer and the nuts that hold the spindle to the brake backing plate?
Slave cylinder bleed valve??
