    GM Heritage Collection Sell-off

As you may know, the GM Heritage Collection numbers in the many hundreds of cars and trucks - from 'first builts' and 'last builts' to one-off show cars to SEMA show cars.

The Decision has been made to sell off select vehicles. (Indeed, a sad day for some of us......)

There's a little of everything -- from the Legendary Buick Blackhawk -- to (are you sitting down?) a COUPLE of 1989 Corvette ZR1s -- the Jon Moss built Track-dominating Black 572 ZL1 -- A C5 Alpha and a C5 Beta -- The Tiger Shark -- the LT5 Camaro -- a 1904 Olds Touring -- several GTOS -- both old and new -- a couple of 1970 muscle cars -- a mid nineties "510" Impala SS -- and many, many pace cars and trucks.

This may be the time to break open the piggy bank.................

    PLEASE NOTE:

    >This is a preliminary list -- it is very likely subject to change -

    >Barrett-Jackson will, in the coming week or two, put out pictures of each of these cars on their website.

    >This is the Scottsdale, AZ auction -- January 13-19, 2009.

    >Please feel free to share with your club members and friends

Sorry about the small pic below - you can open it up and try and read the names. It's the way I received it in an e-mail.

Barrett-Jackson sold off 30 of the Heritage cars at Vegas in October, mostly Pace cars. There was some great deals!
I drove a few of them. My favorite was an '05 Corvette Pace Car with 1144 miles on it that Paced the Daytona 500 (Real Pace car) All the strobes and lights still on it and working, and definitely some "tuning" as it lit up the tires and was sideways from a 35mph punch with no effort, went for $40K. I kicked myself on that one.

Are these cars able to be registered and driven on the road?

There are some fabulous one-offs in that Heritage Collection. Unfortunately, if BJ is the venue where they will be auctioned they will be out of my price range. They will have the audience there to assure they get the most for them. Should be fun to watch.

This looks to be the best collection from GM offered to date. My favorite is a car which I had the privilage to work on, the 1990 ZR1 with active suspension. Heinricy's Snake Skinner, and the DR1 are really cool as well. If you want a unique C4, this is your chance.

              Patrick:

Thanks for the "heads-up" regarding the G.M. Heritage Collection being offered for auction. I think you are absolutely correct. It is a great time for buyers, those with deep pockets and lots of confidence.

Just a question. Is that "Holden Race Car", toward the bottom of the list, an import from the GM arm in Australia? What we here in Oz call the V8 Supercars?

                  Bud.

You would have to check with BJ as they will know if the cars are "Certified" for street use or not. MANY of the engineering and concept units were done with exemption stickers to exclude them from emissions testing and safety regulations, and as such may not be able to be licensed for road use. Some of the cars that are just cosmetic packages would not have this issue, but GM would be supplying this info for each car to BJ.

I built the Camaro GTZ for GM back in 1983 at my place of business at the time in Pontiac, Mi. That car was in GM shows for many years before they retired it. We also did all their race car programs for over 10 years during the 70's and 80's. To make a point here is that the paint job only on the Camaro GTZ then was 20,000.oo (rest in six figures) Now look at this partical list of cars built on the outside of GM and then try to add up all the dollars on show or what ever cars. Are they truly needed NO WONDER THE BIG ? THREE ARE IN TROUBLE oh well!!!

BJ Scottsdale consignments have been sold out for two weeks. Perhaps they will add more lot numbers or go to Palm Beach.

I'm amazed Barret-Jackson can sell out there consignment spaces for a No-Reserve Auction, weeks ahead of the auction, when the flood of dire economic news continues to pervade the air-waves. We shall see how the auction turns out; but, clearly I expect the sellers to take big hits and the buyers to do exceedingly well.

I'm sure we will all stay turned.
