Bill, I See Paragon Sell Kits, Or Did You Get V Shields Only? Early 70's Has Different Distributor Shield, I Have Found. I Am Wondering If 68-69 Would Work On Early With No Safety Motor Mounts?
I found nice original V shields so I did not buy repros. I did see a set of repro V Shields and they were way too nice when compared to GM. The chrome was way too nice.
The spark plug wire heat shield are the repros I am inquiring about. They are sometimes called J shields. They go between the exhaust manifolds and plugs and are held on by 1/4-20 bolts with recessed hex head and captured washer in SEMS or Anchor head mark so far as I can tell.
Hi Bill,
I ended up re-plating and using the original shields for my 71.
I can't remember just why I was dissatisfied with the reproduction shields. It may have been as minor as a difference in the identifying stampings on the shields, the length of the rib, or maybe the shape of the cut out in the 'J' part of the shield to clear the exhaust manifold. Do Paragon's have a tiny 'PR' stamped on them?
So many pieces, so many slight variations, so much fun!
Regards
Alan

Hi Again,
Here are a couple of the things I mentioned in my other post. I hit submit before I loaded the pictures.
I hope this helps you with your search for the pieces for your 70, remember these are from a January 71 car.
Regards,
Alan
PS: These shields show a little 'grain' in the metal because I had to work them pretty aggressively to get the rust completely off.
R the repros from Paragon identical to the originals?
I guess by now everyone who reads my posts know I have no idea what I am doing

The GM #3917664 and 3817657 spark plug heat shields are still available from GM. Generally, when parts are still available from GM, that's what the Corvette vendors, including Paragon, sell. However, in this case it's possible that there is an alternate manufacturing source OR alternate procurement channel for the shields. That's because while the GM #3917664 shield is available for a reasonable GM list of about 16 bucks, the GM #3817657 GM lists for almost 40 bucks, each.
However, keep in mind that there's nothing that guarantees that the current GM pieces (or, the reproductions if they're actually not the current GM pieces) are identical in every way to the originals used in PRODUCTION and once-available in SERVICE.

Thank you Joe. I have purchased 2 of the 4 pieces I need and I am closing in on the other two. I am pretty sure that my LF side should have the hole for the temperature sending unit.
The only piece of original shielding, mainly the supports for the box, indicate the late style even though mine was built in early June #11,327. The bolts holding the suppports were the correct "A" headmark so thats the story and I am sticking with it
