A6 compressor shaft seal protecter J-21303

Hello;
Has anyone had success using a substitute for J-21303 over the end of the shaft to protect the seal during installation.

Would buy one if it's available.

Googled same, with no results.

Not too long ago I bought a complete kit of A/C tools. Now I have to remember/look up where I got them. The company came as a link in a thread on one of the boards I frequent, but I don't recall if it was this one or another. I'll look and see what I can find tonight, if no one else can come up with anything.

The other option is to search that ever-popular auction site for "J-21303." Eventually one may surface.

Try Classic Tool Design at www.ctd4ac.com. Located in New Windsor, New York. Reasonably priced ac tools made in the USA. I believe you are looking for their # 99-0484 A6 seal protector.....$19.

Another place to try is Mastercool Tools (for auto air conditioning).

I believe that the #22-0183 is for the DA6 and not the older A6 we are used to working on. I think the one you need is # 99-0484. If in doubt, call them and inquire.

Kent-Moore 10500, which is the complete tool set for servicing A6 seals and clutch. It includes that protective sleeve. I think it's a must have for anyone who does their own work. Includes the pulley puller, all the drivers, clutch remover/installer, etc. What it does NOT have is the special "long reach" snap ring pliers and the clutch retainer "fork" tool.

Mike, others: Here's 2 sets of A6 A/C tools I bought off eBay; both were Robinair, which I believe was bought (or spun off) by Kent-Moore). The ones in the cardboard case, with tools identified in the 10500 series, did not include the seal protector J-21303 (a Kent-Moore #). Luckily, the other red plastic case did, as well as including those really neat special internal snap ring pliers -- probably designed precisely for A6 servicing [model Mac ACP 222]. The clutch-holding fork (generic adjustable) can be found in almost any autoparts store.
