54 steering resistance

Took the 54 out to enjoy the clear weather today, started noticing there was a resistance against me when cornering or turning and seemed to get stiffer the further I went, so I went home,Dah. Before worrying too much, oh and I did check the oil in the steering gear, could see the gear plainly with some coating in their, but don't know how much is supposed to be in their, where does one start for easiest fix, 2 1/2 years of easy driving on this car. Originally was grease ,some people add oil you decide ! Have you checked the drag-link or front axle pins, tire pressure .
