58 tach cable

My new tack cable sticks past the housing 1/4 inch (At the generator) so naturally only goes into Gen. that far, if you pull it thru the sheathed part so it goes into gen. further, then it works for a short time before releasing. I can put old cable into gen. 1 full inch untill it bottoms out. Am talking about the tach.not working naturally, Am I right in saying that cable needs to be longer, sounds like it to me or am I missing something in the gen.? Cable and sheathing are a CC part and 60 inch brand new. Thanks Brad

At the tack the cable should have a washer to limit the distance it goes in when tightening the nut, the Gen, end has no stop . I'm talking original cable.
Don't you just love the many repro's parts that don't work

Roy, the tach end does have the fixed washer or stopper if that is what you mean, I see the cable as just being too short at the other end, 1/4 left to go into Gen., anybody else had this problem, my friend with machine shop said he can easily apply same brass piece to make it longer with no problem, sending back to get another one would mean they send you the same thing with no modifications and back to square one again. Brad.

A Speedo shop has an adapter that makes a short driven plastic speedo gear longer that fit over the cable end. I don't have a pic. Of it but added to your inner cable will do the same thing by making it longer. It's about one inch long steel piece . All C1 repro tack cables I've seen (housings) comes to long and have the wrong coloring ,like I post a while back, but the JM only mentions the AC logo at the ends not how long or color.
That's one reason having a repro and using many ant worth Sh*t.
If I tried to sell a real original cable no one would by it because it's not as pretty and shiny as a repro., so you never see them for sale.

Thanks, (54 car now) Hey another thing can the fuel pump lines, gas and vac be interchanged with no problem or will it only work one way for vac mainly, still trying to get my winshield washer pump to work, have had everything apart and seems its all fine just cant get water to come thru but works fine by blowing thru by mouth, it stopped working when car went in for paint, knob loose from dash is all they probably did and let hang like all other knobs for dash paint, Hmmm? Brad.
