C2 Horn Wiring Clips - finish

The green horn wiring (64 vet) is held in place by 4 clips, pn 3833476, along the front valance area.

WHAT is the finish of these??

Mine still show some heavy black finish. Now I would not expect these were on the car when blackout was sprayed in this area since the green wire to horns are all green and no signs of any blackout - so I assume the clips were added during the green wire run.
Did these come painted or was a rubber finish applied to them as I see some of the other wring connectors/support are finished?
    Thanks Alan

Originals that I've seen were a dark grey "phosphate-y" kind of finish. Similar to the clips that hold spark plug wires at the oil pan, or the clip for the vacuum advance pipe.

      Thanks Mike,
Doing a little cleaning and the underlying metal is finished as you mentioned.

However I have found, remaining a thick black coating most notably where the wire resides which is the same stuff other electrical supports use where the wiring harness is supported. Think I will re-dip these in a similar electrical isolator.

Now do I just dip the wire end or entire clip. I don't believe the production process would just dip the wire holding area, but maybe that black isolator stuff was expensive and that's exactly what was done.
Know the other electrical supports used in the car were just dipped on the end where the wire cable would contact and not where it was attached to the body.

Re: C2 Horn Wiring Clips - PlastiDip

I'd probably just dip the whole thing, but I'd put a wire in them to avoid build-up inside. Those clips are pretty tight even uncoated. (I use a popsicle stick to push the wire into the clips.)

Just a thought, aren't they the same clips that hold the antenna wire under the dash just behind the cluster. Seems they look the same to me.

Thank Harry - took at look at that clip and found that it also had the partial black coating ONLY in the area where wire is held. Since these are out of the weather they are in excellent condition.

Have also finished cleaning all my horn wire clips (4) and inspected them closely. It appears that these clips were also treated the same as other wire clips throughout the car, ie only a limited area protected. So guess that's how they will be restored.

Note the horn clips are pn 3833476 and the radio ant clips are pn 3827371, so they are different. The ant is a little larger.
