The thread below, by Oliver Brandenburg, on subject of rubber boot for his 1977, has prompted this new thread on related issues, but for the 1965 MY.
The latest '65 TIM&JG calls for the rubber boot on the hex end of the handle assy., and a single loop (hook) retaining spring for the jack and handle assy's; no mention of early / late running changes. Also, there is no mention of a small (7" by 12") piece of carpet glued under the jack & handle assy., to avoid the rattling of the hex end (prior to the rubber boot addition, I suppose).
The '65 AIM shows addition of the boot on 10-19-64 (ie. during the strike -- last car off the line when strike began is #01425). AIM also shows that the double hook hold-down spring was added on this same date. No AIM mention of carpet.
Noland Adams details these changes (including carpet underlay) for 1965 in his Vol 2, pgs. 266 & 267.
Back in RESTORER Vol 6 #3 (winter 1980), Gene Dressen wrote an article on a survey he did that showed 8 cars (2000 to 5000 VIN range) had the carpet pad.
So what information has surfaced since then for the TIM&JG to not mention any running changes in boot / spring / carpet pad [the latter by omission] ?
