    67 Front Stabilizer Bar- 3/4"

Looking to remove my original front stabilizer bar on my 67 S/B, clean it up, change the bushings and link bolts/bushings back to original.

Had the bushings changed to polyurethane some time ago, want to go back to rubber. Having trouble finding 3/4" rubber sway bar bushings. All the catalogs list 3/4" as polyurethane, but they list 5/8" and 7/8" rubber.

    Here's my questions:

    1. Is the sway bar at rest when the car is sitting. Can you just unbolt the bushing brackets and link bolts or do you have to jack up the car and put the wheels in a neutral position.

    2. Were the sway bar bushings cut to install at the factory, or were they threaded on from the end of the sway bar prior to installation of the sway bar. My originals were cut, but not sure if the were cut to take them off.

    3. Do they make 3/4" rubber sway bar bushings as repros, or are they all now polyurethane.

    4. Was the front sway bar really mitted as the JG says, or left natural.

Enough questions for now, having fun,

The sway bar is not loaded. It simply links both sides, so you can just unbolt and bolt the new ones up.

Mitted by the Easter Bunnie, Santa Claus, or the Tooth Fairy. No mitting!

          Jerry -

The bushings arrived at the plant pre-slit from the supplier.

            Jerry:

If you are installing new rubber bushings, you will probably find that you cannot get the original bolts started because the rubber has not been compressed.

What I did (and probably many others) is use slightly longer bolts and/or a floor jack and piece of wood to help compress each rubber bushing and metal cap. After all four bolts are installed and snugged up, replace them one at a time with the shorter, original bolts.

No need for a repro. GM #3817573 is the bushing originally used and the bushing still available from GM.

Thanks Craig, Wayne, Dick, John, Larry, and Joe. This forum is just great.

Got all my questions answered within 24 hours.

Dick, just can't decide whether to use red, pink or white mitts for the painting. Just might put a light spray of SEM 39143 along the bottom.

Just made a little batch of grappa for you guys, only 120 prf. But you will have to wait until the San Jose convention. As you can probably tell, I've been doing a little sampling
