    70 Conv. Windshield trim

    I have had a set of NOS chrome corners for a while now.

    I am getting ready to put them on when I noticed the originals have a finish similar to the the one on the rear view mirror support, on the inboard side including around the bushing. If I were to very lightly sand blast the appropriate areas under low pressure can I duplicate that finish?

    Hi Bill,
    I know what texture your talking about. I had my original corners re-chromed and lost the texture because I didn't tell the plater to tell his buffer to leave that little textured area.
    I talked to various people and everyone told me I didn't had even the slightest chance of duplicating the texture in the chrome. Everyone said I'd have to strip the chrome, try to duplicate the texture in the casting and then re-plate. I thought about buying used castings and starting over but decided I wanted to use the original parts.
    Just another reason I'm having so much fun!

      I still have my originals and they are clearly salvageable. I always save the original parts JIC.

      If I have them re-plated with care, can the plater actually duplicate the finish as long as the plater knows what he is doing?

        YES! It's typically a matter of the platter just looking at the factory original part, realizing what surfaces were buffed clean/smooth and knowing you do NOT want the replated part to differ from the original (keep the buffing wheel OFF those areas)...
