For all C1's having a PG relay

I get calls asking me where can they get a PG relay #904, If you can find a NOS it can cost upward of $400.00 and used ones may be bad. So I tell people to locate a Chevy (over drive relay) and modifie it by adding a jumper wire and cutting the tag off to make it look like original ,here's how=
You hook the ground coming from the PG switch attached to the shifter to #4. The hot coming from the ignition to #3 with a jumper wire to #2,then the wire going to the starter to #1 when you turn the switch it will engage the relay only in park or neutral position.
Some original relays have the #904 on the back side so this will fool many judges. Hope I helped some one save money!
PS it's a good idea to carry a spare like this one , but if not connecting the key wire to the starter wire you can start the engine to get home.

Thanks for the tip Roy. I have a passenger one (NOS) and will do the mod for a spare.

    Keep 'em coming!

Roy also told me how to "jump" my relay until I could get my switch on the trans adjusted properly, worked like a charm... I'm using a three prong model out of a Nomad, not correct number, but it works

You lost me a bit on this one Roy. I can see what lug to cut off. But I can't figure out where the jumper wire goes. I assume it's under the sheet metal cover. Do you have a photo of the jumper in place? Which lug is #1, #2, #3 and #4?

Also I'm curious if a 12V overdrive relay could be so modified and used safely/successfully in a 6V Vette.

Looking at the original relay on the fire wall left lug is #1 bottom # 2 right # 3.
#1 is from the key #2 goes to the starter # 3 comes from the PG

The four lug #2 and # 3 you jump them using a wire # 4 comes from the PG
            The relay don't know it's a 12V or 6V it's used on both !
If your still lost in the woods I cant help you

I get it, the two lugs that come out the bottom need to be jumped. Now I still wonder about using a 12V relay for this 6V application. As I understand it the starter relay carries the full current to the starter and don't know the wiring in the 12V relay is heavy enough to function properly. Anyone know?

Anyone know if 836 (voltage unknown) and 876 12V four pole relays can be similarly converted to 3 pole starter relays. Also, anyone know what the original applications were for the 876 and 836?
